Trip to Northern Kyoto and Himeji

I went on a tour of the northern part of Kyoto Prefecture and Himeji City in Hyogo Prefecture.

First, we cruised in Ine Bay, which is famous for houses standing on the sea that have garages full of fishing boats. Many birds, such as sea gulls and kites, gathered around our ship. We enjoyed tossing them shrimp snacks. However, we missed the houses on the sea.

Next, we overlooked the view of the scenic site called Amanohashidate, which means the “bridge in the sky”. It's a naturally formed sandbank in the sea. If you overlooked the sight upside-down through your thighs, it would look like a bridge in the sky. Unforunately, the view wasn’t nice because of the cloudy weather.

We stayed at a huge hotel on the side of the mountain. We were able to see the view of Amanohashidate from our room. However, it was difficult to distinguish that part, because we looked at it from the side. We also spent some time in the hotel's spa. The dishes were delicious, but not typical of the region.

On the second day, we started our day by taking a local train. Then we visited Himeji castle. It's a famous World Heritage Site. After five years of renovation, it was recently opened to the public, so it was packed with people. There was a one hour line to enter the castle area, and another one and half hour line to go up to the top of the castle. We had only an hour and a half of free time, so we gave up entering the castle area.

The castle was very close to a Shinkansen (bullet train) station, but we had to go back to Nagoya Station by bus. Even though we got caught in a traffic jam on the highway, we managed to be on time for the Shinkansen at Nagoya Station.
